The Snare Drum is the drum with strands of metal "snares" stretched across the bottom drumhead. The drum is played by striking it with a drumstick or any other form of a beat, including brushes or rutes. Today in popular music, especially with rock drum kits, the snare is used to play the backbeat pattern. Snare drums are also common in drum lines, and a key part as musical marching ensemble.
Percussion instruments are available to 5th graders participating in Experienced Band lessons.
