STRING ORCHESTRA DIRECTOR
Location(s) Atlanta, GA, Raleigh, NC and Jacksonville, FL
Music Matters After School is now hiring Elementary School String Orchestra Directors. Classes begin immediately after the school day. Successful candidates should possess a desire to help students grow as musicians, nurture students' passion for music, and develop an understanding of what it means to perform with others. Flexibility, a caring approach with students, and a fun, energetic style to teaching are a must. Candidates must be able to teach large heterogeneous classes with varying levels of student abilities using rote instruction, aural instruction, and conceptual learning.
Job Description:
- Teach elementary orchestra classes each week after school, 2-4 days per week.
- Class times range from 90 minutes to 2 hours in duration. (varies per market)
- Provide a safe, nurturing, and engaging classroom where students feel encouraged to grow as musicians and people
- Communicate weekly with parents on their child's progress
- Differentiate the learning for all levels of students in the classroom
- Create fun and creative lessons aligned with the MMAS Orchestra Curriculum
- Teach beginning through intermediate techniques for all of the following instruments: Violin, Viola, Cello, and Bass
- Communicate with office personnel on a daily basis via the phone and email
- Attend all scheduled training, concerts, and recruitment demonstrations
Requirements:
- Minimum requirement of a Bachelor's Degree in Music
- Some heterogeneous classroom experience
- Ability to teach and play all stringed instruments on a basic level
- Knowledge of the MENC standards and how to apply them in the classroom
- Proficient computer skills including internet, word processing and email
- Access to a personal computer and printer sufficient for work use
- Professional and caring demeanor at all times
- Dependable transportation
